help with the
The 2008 Kids Klassic is at the Lacey Longs Pond parking facility. PSA is being more involved in introducing kids to fishing since Larry Skewis & Sharon have stepped forward & are now organizing this event since Randy Black has stepped down after ram-rodding it for many years.
of kids accepted in this project is 600 each year. For the minimal
pre registration entrance fee, they get a Tee shirt & get to keep the rod & reel
they are assigned. The kids get to fish in a netted off area where
hungry 8-12" rainbow trout are planted a couple of days before. They get
to fish for an hour & can retain 2 fish. By 3PM when the last kids
are finished, the happy volunteers need a rest.
Larry has suggested that this call for volunteers be posted on our website. Volunteers are needed on many positions again this year. The more volunteers we get, the better the load is shared. Most of the newer volunteers will usually be needed on the bank assisting where needed.
This year as the past will probably cover instruction for "Water Safety", "Fishing Ethics", "Knot Tying", "Lures", "Gear", "Fly Fishing Demo" & of course "Fish Anatomy".
The event will be April 19th at Long Lake Park from 9 AM to 3 PM. Those of you who do volunteer need to give some indication as if they plan on volunteering & show up between 7:30 & 8:00 AM for instructions, assignments & issuance of staff vests.
Volunteers are also needed on the evening of April 15th at Longs Pond Community Center's "White House" for rod & reel assembly of 600 rods. This starts at 6PM thru 9PM, Pizza & pop will be supplied.
Many volunteer groups assist in this worthy operation, including but not limited to, C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation, Washington State Bass Federation, Trout Unlimited, Federation of Fly Fishers, Puget Sound Anglers, Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife, Washington State Parks & Recreation Commission, the City of Lacey. Also this worthwhile project could not be done without donations from ZEBCO, Eagle Claw, G.I. Joes & other businesses.
